Tae Shim

Tae holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a minor in Health Leadership from the University of Lethbridge and is pursuing a Master of Science at the University of British Columbia. His creative background in videography and digital storytelling is deeply informed by his public health training, allowing him to explore not just the “what” of an issue, but the “why” behind it - the lived experiences, systemic challenges, and stories that often go untold. In combination, his foundation rooted in community well-being and systems thinking brings an integrated, human-centred perspective to his work where storytelling is not just a tool, but a responsibility.

Tae’s work bridges the gap between insight and emotion, using visual storytelling and field-based engagement to transform complex issues into accessible narratives that resonate with people’s everyday realities. Whether filming on location or coordinating research efforts behind the scenes, he is driven by the question: How can we make distant issues feel personal? He believes that data alone cannot spark change; it must be felt, heard, and seen in ways that connect with people’s values, emotions, and sense of justice. Tae is especially passionate about creating space for underrepresented voices in global conversations, and ensuring that research does not remain confined to academic journals or policy tables, but reaches the hearts and minds of communities everywhere. His curiosity, empathy, and aspiration to create action fuelled his role in co-founding AMPP with the team. He hopes to help reshape how we see the world, and how we care for it.
